Listen Foursquare, before I say anything I want you to know that no matter what happens we will always be friends. I’ve enjoyed our time together and I have had a lot of fun, but unfortunately I’m leaving you. Now before you get all crazy on me and start throwing APIs, tips, and to-dos around, I want you to know it’s not you, it’s me. I find nothing wrong with your competitions, or your minimalist good looks. At first, when we were new, just the idea of checking in and competing with my friends was enough for me. You were my first introduction into the world of location-based sharing, and I will always remember you for that, but now I’m at a different place in my life. Not only do I want the ability to check in, but now I want more out of our relationship. I want to know as much as I can about places before I check in and quite frankly the tips are just not enough. I want the ability to call, to visit a website, to read reviews, to see pictures, and a whole bunch of other stuff before I visit. Have I been seeing Yelp? Well, it won’t do any good to lie to you now. Yes, I’ve been seeing Yelp. Is that all? Well no, that’s not it. I’m also seeing Facebook Places as well, but that’s really just a friend thing, nothing serious. I’m sorry it had to end this way, but as the saying goes:
“All things end badly, or else they wouldn’t end.”
Goodbye Foursquare.
